Business Success in Network Marketing... In terms of career, Mike Dinnison (Townsville) has gone about face – from completely regimented to 100 per cent unconventional. Mr Dinnison started out his career in the army then moved into aged care but now specialises in network marketing.
He’s using the power of BNI networks to build his own small business and to date he’s been so successful that he’s quit his day job. Once a Lieutenant Colonel in the army, Mr. Dinnison is now Assistant Director of the Northern Australia BNI (Business Network International) and runs his own business, Send Out Cards.
He has been part of BNI groups in Townsville since 2006 and has successfully leveraged that model to grow his own successful home based business.
According to Mr. Dinnison, BNI is the most successful network marketing company in the world but it is not like Amway or Nutrimetrics where members get paid by their company. Rather it is a networking platform that brings teams of people together from all kinds of small business so they can work together to promote their business to each other and wider networks, while learning about best business practice.
“Becoming a member of BNI is like instantly acquiring a new team of sales people who are constantly on the lookout for referral opportunities for your business” he said.” Astonishing results have been achieved by people from a very diverse range of businesses through their involvement with BNI”.
Like many before him, Mr. Dinnison joined BNI to grow his small business using the power of word-of-mouth advertising.
In 2006, he joined BNI and in 2008 he joined a network marketing company and set about creating a business that could take him comfortably through retirement. “In that time I have built very successful professional relationships with my BNI colleagues and these relationships have been directly proportional to the success of my business here in Australia.”
“BNI gives me a sales team that knows and trusts me….BNI is the ultimate networking marketing platform for any small business”

Group Gains Momentum - More than 180 business people gathered for the first meeting of the Business Network International Buderim Chapter last week.
President Wayne Slager said BNI helped its members find and exchange qualified business referrals for each other and develop word-of-mouth marketing techniques.
“The whole concept is you have one person from each cate- gory and meet once a week,” Mr Slager said.
“We look out for referral opportunities for each other. What goes around comes around.”
The concept originated in the United States 25 years ago and BNI has become the world’s largest business referral organisation of its kind, with more than 5400 chapters in 40 countries. Last year members of BNI in
Australia generated referrals resulting in more than $70mil- lion in new business.
Mr Slager said the regular meetings allowed individuals to get to know what each person’s goals were and help them more effectively.
BNI started on the Sunshine Coast with the launch of the Buderim club nine years ago, but it folded after four years.
But not all hope was lost when Mr Slager saw an opportunity to kickstart the venture again six months ago.
“It was time for a fresh chap- ter on Buderim,” he said.
BNI Sunshine Coast executive director Rob Warburton had big dreams for the Buderim Chapter, also known as Team Momentum, and was confident it would ex- ceed expectations.
“It’s the fastest growing chapter on the Sunshine Coast. It took three information meetings to receive 33 applications,” Mr Warburton said.
“I believe it has the potential to be the biggest chapter in Australia. The biggest at the moment is Maroochydore and this is going along the same lines.
“It’s the attitude of the people. Everyone wants to help each other and give them business.”
Last Thursday, the Buderim Chapter Visitors’ Day generated a lot of interest, with hundreds of local business people eager to find out more about BNI.
As a result, more than 50 individuals put their hands up to apply for membership.
“We will have a pool of con- tacts of up to 40,000 people,” Mr Slager said. “It just works.”
The Buderim Chapter meets at the Buderim Tavern from 6.45am to 8.30am every Thursday.
